UTV Safety Tips
UTV riding is fun, but there’s always an element of risk. Luckily, responsible behaviors can go a long way toward mitigating that risk. Use these tips from the experts at LeMond’s Motorsports of Olney to help keep yourself and others safe when you ride your side by side.
Build Your Route In Advance
Always look at the trail ahead of time and plan out your route. Countless UTV riders have gotten lost and had to navigate back to their starting point in the dark due to a lack of proper planning. Reduced visibility often leads to accidents. In other cases, riders have found themselves far from their starting point and out of fuel or water. By planning your route ahead of time and giving a copy to a person you trust, you can avoid getting lost and help the authorities locate you should something go wrong.
Wear Riding Gear
Riding gear is recommended for a reason. A DOT-certified helmet, eye protection, sturdy gloves, closed-toe shoes, and other protective gear can go a long way toward mitigating any injuries you might sustain in a crash. If conditions are wet or cold, substitute waterproof or insulated gear as needed.
The Right Tire Pressure Counts
Off-road riding is hard on a set of tires. That’s why maintaining the right tire pressure is very important when it comes to UTV safety. In addition to keeping the tire pressure within the manufacturer's recommended range, make sure that the tires themselves are in good condition. The last thing you want is to have a blowout in the middle of your ride.
